NEW COACH ALERT – WELCOME KEVIN TO THE TEAM!

Fit Lab, help us welcome Kevin to the coaching team!

Becoming a Fit Lab coach is more than just getting through a training checklist. During our onboarding process, new coaches learn The Fit Lab Way from the inside out, including how we structure an hour, coach the group and individual athletes, create a fun and welcoming environment, build community, and most importantly, help every person in the room get better.

It’s not an easy process to get through, so congratulations, Kevin! He put in the work, passed his coaching training, and is officially ready to start coaching classes with us.

Kevin has been a part of the CrossFit world since 2016 and has wanted to coach for years. He brings a huge passion for CrossFit, plenty of enthusiasm, and apparently some very strong opinions about wall balls and kettlebell swings;)

We’re excited to have him on the team and even more excited for you all to get to know him. Check out Kevin’s answers below to learn a little more about where he came from, what gets him fired up, and what you can expect when he’s coaching your class.

Next time you see Kevin, make sure you give him a big Fit Lab welcome!

Meet Coach Kevin:

  1. Tell us a little about yourself outside of the gym. I am originally from Virginia. I have lived all over the country and world (Virginia, Texas, Missouri, Indiana, Georgia, North Carolina, and Germany). I spend most of my time watching CrossFit and college football.
  2. How did you first get into CrossFit/fitness? I was a student at JMU, and had become so bored with the typical globo gym 5 day a week split. I walked into Rocktown CrossFit in 2016 and the rest is history.
  3. What brought you to Fit Lab? I came to Raleigh for a new job opportunity, but got assigned to a location in Burlington upon moving to Raleigh. Due to that I tried every single gym along I40 and fell in love with the coaching and competitiveness of the gym.
  4. What made you want to become a coach? It has been a dream of mine for years to be a coach. CrossFit is my absolute passion and I love being able to have others learn about my passion, and no better other way to do that than to coach. I got my CFL1 in 2023 but never had an opportunity to coach until now.

The Fun Stuff
5. What’s your favorite movement or type of workout? I love burpees, anything on the rig, and long grind type workouts where you can just put your head down and move.

6. What movement do you secretly hope never shows up on the whiteboard? wallballs and kettlebell swings.

7. What’s your favorite part of coaching a class? I love in the final few minutes of a workout when I can put on a hype song and see the athletes kick it up a notch.

8. What’s one thing you’re always looking forward to when you walk into the gym? I look forward to being able to give everyone a meaningful workout that crushes them regardless of skill or ability.

Their Coaching Philosophy
9. What do you think makes a great coach? The ability to get everyone excited to work out makes a good coach. This should be the best hour of their day, and I want athletes leaving feeling better than they came in.

10. What’s one thing you want members to get from your classes besides a good workout? I want members to gain confidence in themselves and want to come back to my classes because of the confidence and gains they are making.

11. What’s one piece of advice you’d give someone who is new to CrossFit? It takes time. This is a highly technical methodology, and it takes coming in day after day to see fitness increases.

12. What does “The Fit Lab Way” mean to you? Continue show up and give your best effort, day after day, even when it gets tough.

Community
13. What’s something you love about the Fit Lab community? The constant encouragement amongst the athletes. Classes are fun because we workout together.

14. What’s one thing you hope to contribute to the community as a coach? I hope to be another friendly face that people are excited to see when they walk in the door.

15. What’s something members can expect from you when you’re coaching their class? I am going to be hype and my music choices and enthusiasm will reflect that in the “final round” of the workout.
